Bodies React To Infection With Fever

Dear Dr. Sangani,

I have three children and for one reason or another they catch fever. My wife gets freaked out as soon as any of the children feels hot. She thinks fever is such a bad thing that the kid is going to die. Can you please let me know if she is overreacting or am I just being a typical macho man?  Macho Man

Epilepsy Can Occur in Anyone

Dear Dr. Sangani,

My nephew was recently diagnosed with epilepsy and it came as a shock to everyone in my family. What is epilepsy and should I have my own children checked out for it? – Concerned

The Truth About Immunizations

Dear Dr. Sangani,

I’ve been reading extensively on immunizations and came to find that some vaccines can actually cause more harm than good. As a mother I wouldn’t want to risk my son’s safety if. Can you help me understand what immunizations are necessary and what side effects they may cause? – Worried Mother

Anaphylaxis Explained

Dear Dr. Sangani,

A few days ago my family and I went to a cook-out at a friend’s house. While we were eating, my five year old asked me if he could taste some of the shrimp on my plate. Without giving it a second thought I let him have one. A couple minutes later he began complaining of being itchy. After about ten minutes his eyes began to swell and he was weezing. That’s when we decided to take him to the hospital. Thank God we did, because that’s when they told us he was most likely allergic to shellfish and that he was going through something called “anaphylaxis”. It was one of the scariest times of my life and I want to make sure everyone is prepared for it. – Worried Mom

Pediatrician Addresses Bed-Wetting Issue

Dear Dr. Sangani,

Please help me settle an argument with my husband. We have a son who is 5 years old. He still has bed-wetting episodes. My husband does not think anything needs to be done about it and thinks that time will take care of it. I am freaking out with his response. I think something needs to be done. Help. – Trying to Understand

Dental Health Begins Early

Dear Dr. Sangani,

I have read a lot about taking children to the family doctor for regular check-ups. I have not read much about the dental recommendations for children. Is there some age you would recommend to take the children to the dentist? Somebody Who Cares About Teeth

Parents Have The Power of Prevention

Dear Dr. Sangani,

Unfortunately, every summer we hear the sad news about children drowning in swimming pools, and the Dear Abby column recently focused on concerns about child safety in pools. I think it would be a great social service if you would dedicate a column on this very important but often overlooked topic. – Social Worker

Vaccinations Keep All Of Us Healthy

Dear Dr. Sangani,

Some of us have read about the National Immunization Awareness Month. What exactly is it and what are its goals? Why is it so important to receive vaccinations? – Readers

Poor Grades? No Reason To Suspect ADD

Dear Dr. Sangani,

My son constantly has issues with his peers at school as well as his teachers. He does not seem to pay attention at school or at home. He always seems to be in his own world. The teachers are recommending we take him to a doctor to make sure he does not have mood disorder. I am afraid to even think that my son has a brain disease, and I am scared to even take him to a doctor. Any suggestions? – Afraid To Go To A Doctor

RSV Serious In Your Kids

Dear Dr. Sangani,

Recently, I took my daughter to the doctor because she had difficulty breathing and some respiratory symptoms. She was recently diagnosed with RSV, and if she does not improve during the next few days she may need to be admitted to the hospital. What is RSV, and why should someone be admitted to the hospital for treatment? How can I protect my other children? – Concerned Mother

Don’t Punish The Child Because Of Bedwetting

Dear Dr. Sangani,

I have a 6-year-old child, and she still wets the bed. I have tried everything possible including threatening her and giving her all the explanations, but she has not stopped. This is making me very embarrassed. Can you help me understand the situation and tell me what we can do to control her bedwetting? – Frustrated
